この度roidworksgalleryでは、住吉明子個展「日々是好日 Every day is a good day.」を開催いたします。

住吉明子は、動物や植物のモチーフを通じて、現実と幻想が交錯する独自の世界を描き出します。今回の個展では動物や植物のモチーフを巧みに用いて、万象繚乱が表現し住吉の一貫し連続した世界を鑑賞いただけます。これらの要素それぞれに目を向けると、現実では出会うことのできない、種類の特定が難しくも可愛らしい動物たちが多く登場しますが、どこかで見たことがあるような感覚を覚えることがあります。これは、住吉が生物の姿をそのまま描くのではなく、質感や重み、生態についての知識をもとに独自の視点で世界を再構成しているためです。

住吉明子の作品は、「時間も空間も現実も想像も全てが繋がっている」という作家自身の深い印象から、動植物のモチーフを追求しています。彼女が描く動植物は、見た目の可愛さやリアリティだけでなく、生命の総体としての存在感を持っています。この世界観は、私たちに自然の美しさや命の尊さを改めて感じさせてくれるでしょう。住吉明子の作品が持つ、柔らかで優しい動物たちの表情と、その背後にある緻密なリサーチによるリアリティの融合は、彼女の芸術が持つ魅力の一つです。

roidworksgallery is pleased to announce Akiko Sumiyoshi’s solo exhibition “日々是好日 Every day is a good day.”

Akiko Sumiyoshi depicts a unique world where reality and fantasy intersect through motifs of animals and plants. In this solo exhibition, you will appreciate Sumiyoshi’s continuous and consistent world, skillfully expressed through these motifs. As you observe each element, you will encounter many adorable animals that are difficult to categorize and cannot be found in reality, yet they may evoke a sense of familiarity. This is because Sumiyoshi does not simply depict the appearance of living beings; rather, she reconstructs the world from her unique perspective, based on her knowledge of texture, weight, and ecology.

Akiko Sumiyoshi’s works pursue motifs of animals and plants, inspired by her deep impression that “time, space, reality, and imagination are all connected.” The animals and plants she depicts possess a presence as whole beings, not just their visual cuteness or realism. This worldview will remind us of the beauty of nature and the preciousness of life. The combination of the gentle and kind expressions of the animals and the meticulous research-based realism behind them is one of the charms of her art.

  【作家ステートメント】 

私は日々、日常やうっかりするとこぼれ落ちてしまいそうな出来事、 そっと寄り添うものにとても興味を惹かれます。

それはある日の帰り道に見た街灯の光であったり、季節の移り変わる匂いであったりもします。 

そういった今まで出会い別れてきたものや、日常に過ぎていくものを忘れないように、 そして「（気がつかなくとも）既にそこにあったもの」として描き留めておきたいと思っています。 

それは私にとってメモを取る行為にとてもよく似ています。

動植物、身の回りにあるもの全てをモチーフに。 

生き物も人工物も空想も現実も、 例えばそこにある何かしらの境目を超えて全ては共存しているのだと考えます。 

住吉明子

I am deeply interested in daily life and the moments that seem to slip away unnoticed, and the things that quietly stay close by.

It could be the light from a street lamp seen on the way home one day, or the scent of changing seasons.

To remember these encounters and farewells, and the things that pass by in everyday life, I want to capture them as “things that were already there (even if unnoticed).”

This act is very similar to taking notes for me.

All things around me－animals, plants, objects－serve as motifs.

I believe that living beings, artificial objects, fantasy, and reality all coexist, transcending any boundaries that may exist.
