この度roidworksgalleryでは7月18日(土)から住吉明子個展『I am』を開催いたします。

同ギャラリーでは2年ぶり2回目の開催となる本展では、平面作品から立体表現まで多岐にわたるアプローチで独自の世界を表現してきた作家の、さらなる思索の深化を示す新作の数々を展覧いたします。

住吉の作品は、動物や植物等のモチーフを通じて、現実と幻想が交錯する世界を描き出します。形状や生態への緻密なリサーチをもとに再構成される生き物たちは、実在しないにもかかわらずどこか懐かしく、優しく温かい存在感を放ちます。

前回の個展から2年を経て、住吉の視座はより内省的で普遍的な問いかけへと向かっています。

「自分の見ているものは、本当に誰かと同じ色や形なのだろうか」

同じ景色であっても、見る者の状態や、昨日と今日という時間の経過によって、映るものは異なっていく。その揺らぎの中で、作家は自己をモチーフに投影し、少し離れた場所から見守るように世界を確認します。

本展のタイトル「I am」に込められているのは、すべてを説明しすぎない「イメージの余白」であり、受け手に委ねられた自由な想像の空間です。誤解のないように気をつけながらも、あえて言い切らないこと。それは「私は私であり、同時に他の何者かでも在れる」という、表現における真の自由の追求でもあります。

作品の表情の奥に秘められた、主観と客観をめぐる静かな思考の旅。さらに進化した住吉明子の世界と、再びroidworksgalleryの空間が交わる貴重な機会を是非お楽しみください。

roidworksgallery is delighted to announce the opening of “I am,” a highly anticipated solo exhibition by Akiko Sumiyoshi, running from Saturday, 18 July.

Marking her second solo exhibition at our gallery in two years, this exhibition showcases a variety of her latest works—ranging from two-dimensional pieces to sculptural expressions—demonstrating the further deepening of her artistic contemplation.

Sumiyoshi’s work visualizes a world where reality and fantasy intertwine through motifs such as animals and plants. These creatures, reconstructed based on meticulous research into their shapes and ecologies, emit a nostalgic, gentle, and warm presence despite being fictional.

Two years since her last exhibition, Sumiyoshi’s perspective has shifted toward more introspective and universal inquiries: “Do we really see the exact same colors and shapes as someone else?”

Even when looking at the same scenery, what is reflected changes depending on the viewer’s state of mind or the passage of time from yesterday to today. Within this fluidity, the artist projects herself onto the motifs, observing and confirming the world from a slight distance.

The title of this exhibition, “I am,” encapsulates an “imaginative margin” (space for imagination) that avoids over-explaining, leaving a blank canvas for the viewer’s free interpretation. While being careful to avoid misunderstandings, she deliberately chooses not to define everything. This represents her pursuit of true freedom in expression: “I am who I am, and at the same time, I can be anyone else.”
